An MTA bus accident in the Bronx left several people with injuries this morning, an unsettling interruption to the day’s usual rhythms. Around 11:25 a.m., a Bx11 bus was reported to have mounted a barrier wall at West 181st Street and University Avenue, near the George Washington Bridge bike path. According to PIX11 News, at least four passengers suffered minor injuries in the event.
The bus, seemingly making its routine trip, failed to navigate University Avenue Bridge properly, leading to the incident. Footage captured by CitizenApp and reported by ABC7NY, showed the vehicle awkwardly positioned with its wheels perched atop the concrete barrier. The FDNY arrived just after 11:30 a.m., to the scene where before the mishap, people were safely traveling on the bridge.
Eyewitness reports and first responder testimonials paint a picture of a quick response. Four individuals were attended to with reported non-life-threatening injuries.
The cause of the accident remains unclear as investigations proceed. The MTA has not yet elaborated on the factors leading up to the bus' unexpected detour onto the barrier wall, an anomaly in the midst of the city’s tightly scheduled transit operations. New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority is expected to conduct a thorough review, determined to understand how, involved in the daily grind, a bus found itself astride a concrete barrier.
