The streets of San Francisco witnessed a crackdown on illegal dirt bike activity on Sunday. SFPD officers nabbed six dirt bikes and an ATV and arrested four suspects amid a citywide enforcement operation. As detailed in the SFPD's official release, operations like these are ramping up in response to a surge in stunt driving and reckless behavior on two wheels around the Bay Area.

This particular enforcement effort brought together the expertise of the Citywide Plainclothes Team, the Real-Time Investigation Center, the Drone as a First Responder, and the Stunt Driving Response Unit. The tech arm of the law wielded Automated License Plate Readers, surveillance drones, and cameras, in tandem with boots-on-the-ground surveillance to apprehend individuals and confiscate vehicles.

Evidence of this task force's effectiveness was clear, as four of the seized dirt bikes, all reported stolen, came from locations as varied as Yuba City and Atascadero. The SFPD's haul included the arrests of two individuals for possession of these stolen motorcycles, while two more were cited for lacking proper licenses and registration. "Anyone who engages in this illegal activity in San Francisco will be held accountable," Interim Chief Paul Yep said, per the SFPD's official release.
