
The Hawai‘i Police Department is celebrating one of its own, South Kohala Patrol Officer Landon Takenishi, who has been distinguished as Officer of the Quarter for the second quarter of 2025 by the Hawai‘i Island Safety and Security Professionals Association (HISSPA). The honor was given in recognition of his exceptional law enforcement efforts, as reported by the Hawai‘i Police Department.
Officer Takenishi's notable achievements include five arrests related to operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant (OVUII), reflecting his commitment to maintaining safe roadways on Hawai‘i Island. His expertise as a certified Drug Recognition Expert enables him to identify impairments caused by substances other than alcohol, ensuring that drivers influenced by drugs do not go unchecked. "Officer Takenishi consistently demonstrates a proactive and professional approach to policing, in alignment with our Department’s vision of fostering a safe and secure environment for residents, visitors, and businesses alike," Sergeant Bradden Kimura, who nominated Takenishi, highlighted his efforts in a statement released by the Hawai‘i Police Department.
His successes are not just confined to traffic enforcement; Takenishi has also been pivotal in combating crime through his investigative skills, which have led to numerous arrests and investigations related to both criminal and traffic cases. These victories for community safety align closely with the police department's core values including integrity, professionalism, and compassion.
This is not the first time Officer Takenishi's efforts have been recognized this year, his diligent work in DUI enforcement earned him accolades at the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Law Enforcement Recognition Awards ceremony, previously held on O‘ahu.
