A Utah rideshare driver has found himself in custody, facing serious charges including aggravated kidnapping and object rape, KSL reports. Alejandro Rendon Segovia, a 26-year-old from South Salt Lake, has been charged after a client accused him of sexual assault. The disturbing event allegedly occurred when the victim was under the influence, compromising their ability to consent or resist.
The case, detailed by local news sources, highlights a chilling scenario. According to KSL, the charges filed in the 3rd District Court on Monday encompass first-degree felonies for aggravated kidnapping and object rape, as well as a second-degree felony for obstruction of justice. With the police statement suggesting the possibility of additional victims, a disturbing pattern might be uncovered.
Further chilling details come from FOX 13, revealing the victim's harrowing experience. Having very limited memory of the incident, she recalls being in the back seat, then feeling a need to get home and moving to the front seat while the driver took a smoking break in a school parking lot. It was then that the driver, Segovia, began acting erratically, "hitting himself and yelling in Spanish," the victim stated, instilling her with grave fear.
The case is still unfolding, with KUTV reporting that Segovia refused to comply with a court order for a DNA sample following his arrest on Wednesday. In addition, prosecutors are considering additional charges as they continue their investigation, telling KUTV that a medical examination suggested evidence of recent sexual abuse.
