The St. Johns County Public Library System (SJCPLS) is getting in on the September library card sign-up season by teaming up with over 60 local businesses to offer special deals to cardholders. In an innovative approach to fostering community spirit and promoting its resources, the SJCPLS launched the "Community Connections" discount program last year and, due to its success, has decided to continue it this September.
According to information provided by the SJCFL website, a library card in St. Johns County seems to quickly become a key asset, not just for book lending, but as a gateway to various services. Patrons can now access a range of local discounts just by flashing their library cards. SJCPLS Director Debra Rhodes Gibson emphasized the varied roles the library can play. "There are endless possibilities with a library card," she stated. Whether it be a student or a business owner, Gibson assures that "our library staff can help you."
Hitting the scene last year with 34 partners, the discount program has nearly doubled in size, reflecting an increasing interest from the business community to support the initiative. Discounts span a variety of services and can be unlocked throughout the month of September. A full list of participating businesses and the deals they offer can be found on the SJCFL website.
The process to sign up for a library card is touted as being quick, easy, and free for all St. Johns County residents. Beyond physical books, cardholders gain access to a digital world of resources including e-books, streaming services, and educational material. The library director, Debra Rhodes Gibson, promises that "And your library card can unlock all of it." Further details on the library's offerings and how to join in the festivities can be found by visiting the SJCPLS website or reaching out via email.
For residents looking to maximize the use of their library cards or wanting to get their hands on one, the SJCPLS welcomes them to visit one of their branches or the bookmobile service.
