Yesterday, the St. Louis Circuit Attorney's Office announced charges in the 2019 shooting death of 7-year-old Xavier Usanga in the Hyde Park neighborhood. According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, Xavier was shot while outside his home with his siblings on August 12, 2019, in the 3500 block of N. 14th Street and was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
29-year-old Malik Ross, currently serving a federal sentence for embezzlement, faces new charges including first-degree murder, first-degree assault, and first-degree endangering the welfare of a child in connection to the shooting.
Ross is scheduled to face trial in the case. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department and the Circuit Attorney's Office continue to investigate the incident.
