Following a tragic turn of events at the beginning of this month, detectives have made an arrest in connection to the shooting death of 21-year-old Tyrone Howard. According to St. Pete Police, on September 7, after a vehicle collision alerted authorities, Howard was discovered with a gunshot wound and later succumbed to his injuries at Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital.
The suspect, 20-year-old Jamal Black, faces charges of second-degree murder and four counts of violation of felony probation. The announcement comes after the intensive investigative work following the distressing incident that occurred on Emerson Avenue South, where Howard's vehicle, after being struck by gunfire, crashed into a parked car at a local auto shop.
Amidst this somber case, a glimmer of relief comes from the news that a child was also present but unharmed during the incident. The one-year-old girl, found in the car at the time of the crash, was miraculously not injured, adding a layer of poignancy to an already heartrending event.
Black is currently being held by authorities as legal proceedings commence. Investigations into the specifics of the shooting and the motives behind the violent act continue, as the neighborhood reckons with the unsettling breach of its peace.
