Statesville City Council unanimously approved new regulations on doorstep vending and solicitation practices, set to begin in October. The ordinance passed its second reading last month.
According to Statesville Police Department's Facebook page, anyone selling goods or services door-to-door, promoting products in public spaces, or seeking donations for corporate or group purposes will now need a permit from local law enforcement. Exemptions apply to panhandlers, local schools, faith-based or charitable organizations in Iredell County, business-to-business transactions, and approved mobile food vendors.
A full description of the ordinance is available in the Statesville Police Department’s press release on Facebook. The department stated the new regulations are intended to improve public safety, protect private property rights, and provide transparency for residents about sales and donation requests in the city.
