In response to the nationwide surge in vehicle thefts reported last year, the Statesville Police Department has released a social media post outlining preventive steps. According to the Statesville Police Department's's post, there were over 850,000 vehicles stolen across the country in 2024. A few straightforward measures can substantially lower the risk of having your car stolen.
"Always lock your doors and close windows, even if you’re stepping away for just a minute," advises the Statesville Police Department, highlighting the ease with which theft can occur when vehicles are left unsecured. The Statesville Police strongly advocate never leaving keys, fobs, or valuables inside the car, which are often too tempting for opportunistic thieves.
The post on the Statesville Police Department's's Facebook page also suggests parking in well-lit areas or secured garages, reflecting the deterrent effect of visibility. Anti-theft devices, such as steering wheel locks or tracking systems, are recommended to provide an extra level of security.
The message from the police is clear: "Your small actions make a big difference in reducing opportunities for theft." If residents notice suspicious or criminal activity, they're urged to contact 911 or call Statesville Police Telecommunications directly at 704-878-3406.
