The course of justice threads through the streets of Stockton as local law enforcement makes strides in the solving of recent violent crimes. The Stockton Police Department has announced the arrest of 23-year-old Walter Burgess in connection with a series of shootings, providing some resolution to the community that has been seeking answers. Following a report of gunfire on August 21, 2025, officers were summoned to the 6300 block of N. El Dorado Street where they found a female victim with gunshot wounds. Despite being rushed to the hospital, she later died from her injuries.
While it is distressing to hear, the string of violence linked to Burgess does not end with this incident. Previously nominated as a suspect in another shooting that fatally wounded an 18-year-old male at the intersection of Albany Drive and Astor Drive, Burgess was brought into custody for an unrelated homicide. Although he was originally stabilized after surgery, the male victim later passed away in the hospital on September 16. This arrest on a sorrowful Monday by the Stockton Police Department’s Gang Street Enforcement Team was first documented by Hoodline.
As the investigations into these events press forward, authorities have been consistent in their pursuit of justice. The recent apprehension happened during a routine traffic stop, where Walter Burgess, merely a passenger, was arrested on the spot without incident. He was subsequently booked into the San Joaquin County Jail, facing not only the charges for the aforementioned homicide but also additional charges relating to the more recent case involving the female victim.
