The Stockton Police Department is currently engaged in a multi-agency investigation following an officer-involved shooting that occurred during a traffic stop at Doray Court and Pixie Drive. According to FOX40, the incident happened around 6:09 p.m. yesterday when officers attempted to conduct what they described as a "proactive enforcement stop."
During the stop, a man reportedly fled on foot, dropping a loaded handgun in the process. The escaping suspect allegedly tried to retrieve his dropped firearm while officers pursued him. "Fearing for their safety, officers discharged their firearms, striking the suspect," reported the SPD in a statement obtained by FOX40. The suspect’s current condition after being taken to a nearby hospital remains unclear.
The situation took a dramatic turn as the fleeing individual endeavored to reclaim the firearm, prompting officers to act in defense of their perceived peril. Police say that medical aid was rendered by the officers at the scene until emergency personnel arrived, as noted in a report by CBS Sacramento. The identity of the suspect has not been released to the public.
