A 60-year-old man was fatally shot in Stockton's Seaport District yesterday morning, marking another homicide in what has been a violent month for the city. The man, discovered with a gunshot wound at the intersection of Hazelton Avenue and Harrison Street around 8:31 a.m., received immediate aid from officers at the scene before being rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, as reported by ABC10.
Stockton Police have yet to release the name of the victim as homicide detectives hustle to take over the ongoing investigation. No suspect information has been provided thus far. The incident comes just a day after another shooting in Stockton, which tragically concluded with a 30-year-old man's death and left a 19-year-old man injured, according to KCRA.
Police statistics suggest a grim trend—this is the 26th homicide within Stockton city limits this year, compared to 34 during the same period last year. The month of August alone has witnessed five homicides, including this most recent one.
Despite the slight drop in homicides compared to the previous year, the back-to-back shootings over the weekend add to an unsettling pattern of violence in the area. There were two homicides each in the months of July and June, pointing to a need to definitively address the surge in violence.
