Chaos erupted in a tranquil Tulsa park last week when a man was brutally attacked with a hatchet. The incident took place last Thursday at Sequoyah Park, and police were able to arrest the suspect shortly after the attack, according to a social media post from the Tulsa Police Department.
The victim was simply walking home, choosing to cut through the park, when the assault occurred. "The victim said he was walking home when he decided to cut through the park. While walking, he passed by a man and a woman sitting on a park bench. Shortly after that, the victim said the man hit him in the head with a hatchet multiple times," the Tulsa Police Department detailed in a Facebook post. Despite suffering severe head injuries, the victim managed to quickly find help at a nearby neighbor's house and was transported to the hospital.
Responding rapidly to the scene, the Tulsa Police Helicopter spotted a man near the creek, who was later identified as 39-year-old Michael Jacobs, still in possession of the weapon. Ground officers arrived not long after to take Jacobs into custody, recovering a pellet gun from his vehicle and locating the hatchet in the nearby creek, as reported by the Tulsa Police Department.
Arrest documents reveal Michael Jacobs faces charges including "Assault with a Deadly Weapon AFCF (After Former Conviction of a Felony), Possession of a Firearm AFCF, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia," as the Tulsa Police Department post clarifies. It is important to note that "This is an arrest, not a conviction." Two other individuals present at the time were questioned by police but ultimately released.
