Early Saturday morning, a car burglary suspect was shot and killed by Chicago police following a collision and subsequent pursuit on the city's West Side. The Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is conducting an investigation into the events, according to WGN-TV.

Responding to a burglary in progress call at approximately 3:46 a.m. on W. Thomas Street, officers encountered suspects fleeing in a dark sedan. The vehicle, later found on Chicago Avenue and Waller, crashed into two marked CPD squad cars, trapping an officer—prompting the officer to discharge their firearm at the suspects. After hitting one of the suspects, officers provided medical assistance, but the individual succumbed to their injuries at Stroger Hospital, FOX 32 Chicago reported.

Police took a second suspect into custody who also suffered injuries while a third suspect fled the scene. During the chase, a discarded gun was found by officers. Two law enforcement officials were transported to a hospital with injuries not expected to be life-threatening. The identity of the deceased suspect has not been released while the other detained suspect's condition has not been detailed.

Following the procedure, the officers involved in the shooting will be on administrative duties for a minimum of 30 days. COPA is calling upon anyone with information regarding the case to reach out at 312-746-3609 or visit chicagocopa.org.
