Shaler Township became the scene of a police manhunt early today when a suspected vehicle thief led officers on a brief chase before crashing and fleeing on foot. As reported by WPXI, the ordeal began with Ross Township Police tailing a stolen vehicle into Shaler, promptly escalating when attempts were made to pull the vehicle over.

The unidentified driver decided instead to hit the gas, prompting police to deploy spike strips. Two tires were punctured, leading to the vehicle's crash into a residential yard less than a mile from the attempted traffic stop.

The suspect got out of the crashed SUV and ran off into the streets of Shaler, but didn’t get far. Police searched the area using a drone and a K-9 unit, as WPXI crews showed up to cover the scene. According to WTAE, despite the high-tech help and trained dogs, the suspect was still on the run at last check.
