A 14-year-old boy is currently fighting for his life following a hit-and-run accident in Detroit last Saturday night. According to FOX 2 Detroit, the teen was riding a mini-bike on the city's west side when he was struck by an unknown vehicle near the intersection of Seven Mile Road and Archdale Street, shortly before 10 p.m. Law enforcement officials arrived at the scene after the driver involved had fled without stopping to assist.
Working on an unrelated investigation nearby, Detroit police officers were quick to respond to the accident, as CBS News Detroit reports. The Detroit police have deployed efforts to seek the elusive suspect, drawing upon the area's surveillance cameras to help identify the driver. Commander Shelley Holderbaum, in attempting to convey the potential dangers of such vehicles, said, "Our heart goes out to the family right now. Those mini-bikes, ATVs, dirt bikes are not legal for the city, and they're very dangerous, especially at night, when we can't see kids on it or even adults. It's not a good idea."
