A tragic series of events unfolded on a Bel Air road yesterday when a 16-year-old girl was killed and a 17-year-old boy was severely injured in a multi-vehicle crash involving a school bus. According to FOX Baltimore, the incident occurred on Route 543 and Crescent Knoll Drive and involved a Harford County Public School bus. The Harford County Sheriff's Office noted the crash was reported shortly after 2 p.m., with investigators stating that the vehicle carrying the teenagers had come to a complete stop to make a left turn when it was hit from behind.
The rear-ended vehicle, which the 17-year-old male was driving, was pushed into the oncoming path of the school bus. Flown to a shock trauma center after being extricated, the boy sustained significant injuries, as WBAL reports. The 39-year-old male driver of the vehicle that struck the teen's car was not injured in the crash.
Following the accident, officials confirmed the death of the 16-year-old girl who had been riding as a passenger. The authorities pointed out that no students on the school bus were seriously injured, but six were taken to a nearby hospital as a precautionary measure.
The Sheriff's Office extended its sympathies in the wake of the collision, expressing, "Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of everyone involved in today’s collision, especially those who lost a loved one," as they confirmed that all non-injured students were evacuated from the bus involved and transferred to another bus. The Harford County officials are continuing their investigation into the exact cause of this heartbreaking event, as FOX Baltimore reported.
