
A teenage suspect has been apprehended by the Metropolitan Police Department in connection with an armed kidnapping and carjacking incident that occurred back in May in the Southeast area of DC. According to a Metropolitan Police Department release, on May 4, a sale of a watch turned violent when the price was disputed, leading to the victim's assault and abduction.
Officers from the Sixth District were able to eventually locate the 17-year-old male suspect from Southeast, DC, on Thursday. In a daring operation, they managed to arrest him and brought charges including Armed Carjacking, Kidnapping, and Theft First Degree. The encounter began at around 2:53 p.m. when additional suspects, reported to have arrived after the disagreement, assaulted the victim and forced him into his own vehicle.
After being kidnapped, the victim was taken to a location in Maryland, where the perpetrators not only took the watch but also additional property before fleeing in the victim's vehicle. The Metropolitan Police Department's statement highlighted that the group of assailants abandoned the victim in Maryland and took off with his belongings and car. This distressing ordeal for the victim ended with the vehicle being stolen, though it didn't specify the victim's condition post-abduction.
While this particular suspect is in custody, the investigation remains active as the authorities are working to identify and apprehend the remaining individuals involved. The Metropolitan Police Department has therefore urged anyone with information regarding the case to "take no action but call police" at their direct line or to text their tips. The police emphasize the potential for a reward up to $10,000 for tips that successfully lead to further arrests and convictions in connection with this violent crime that shook the district.
