Tempe Police temporarily evacuated their headquarters and Tempe City Courts on Tuesday after a man entered the lobby carrying a backpack he claimed contained an explosive device. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit responded quickly and determined there was no threat.
According to the Tempe City, the streets surrounding the police station were closed to traffic and pedestrians during the investigation. The individual responsible for the hoax was taken into custody; his identity has not been released.
In a statement, Tempe Police thanked the community for their patience during the incident. Regular patrols and office operations have since resumed.
