In a recent development for the Tennessee Titans, right tackle JC Latham is set to miss the upcoming game against the Los Angeles Rams due to a persistent hip injury. Latham, the Titan's first-round pick from last year, expressed frustration over the situation, telling The Tennessean, "You try to power through everything," and revealed that his injury became aggravated shortly after the Week 1 game in Denver. Despite previous signs of recovery, the setback means Latham will be sidelined for the time being.
While Latham did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday, his approach to recovery has been proactive; he has been mentally preparing as if he were to step onto the field. WSMV's report quoted Latham as saying, "I mean, I'm still taking the approach mentally that I'm a starter, so I try to get as much film this week as I did last week, you know. Eat right, make sure my weight is where it's supposed to be, lifting and everything like that. The only thing I'm not doing is just playing, so everything else is the same."
Latham initially sustained the injury during a joint practice session with the Atlanta Falcons on August 12. According to SFGate, Latham mentioned that the issue he’s experiencing is a strain that restricts his mobility, requiring him to focus on treatment and medication to manage inflammation. The offensive lineman made it clear that although he isn't participating in the actual games, his routine is staying consistent, as rehabilitation and mental preparation take center stage in his daily activities.
The Titans' coaching staff, led by the offensive line coach Bill Callahan, has commented on the adjustments made in Latham's absence, with Callahan affirming the readiness of backup players. "We’re always equipped to make sure that they’re prepared and make sure they’re drilled well, make sure that they’re always getting rep, and switching reps with our first team guys so that they’re always ready," Callahan told SFGate. Seven-year veteran Oli Udoh will take Latham's place, bringing experience but also the daunting task of facing an aggressive Rams pass rush in the Titans' home opener.
