Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has joined a multistate coalition urging universities to protect free speech rights, especially for conservative speakers. This action follows the reported killing of Charlie Kirk, which Paxton referenced while warning against using the incident to restrict conservative expression, as per the Attorney General's Office website.
Paxton’s office sent a letter to higher education institutions nationwide asking them to apply facility-use and security-fee policies in a viewpoint-neutral manner, stating that political bias in policy enforcement could amount to unlawful discrimination. The letter also indicated the Attorney General’s intent to monitor universities’ actions closely and take legal steps if necessary to ensure compliance.
