A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper died in a crash on Monday night while responding to a call. The incident happened around 9 p.m. on FM 945 near FM 2025. Officials said the trooper’s vehicle crossed the East Fork San Jacinto River bridge, went off the road, and hit a tree before catching fire, according to Click2Houston.
First responders found the vehicle on fire when they arrived. The trooper, whose name has not yet been released, did not survive. DPS investigators stayed at the scene for several hours to review the crash. Officials said another fatal crash had happened in the area not long before.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez expressed his sympathies following the fatal crash, stating, “Our thoughts, prayers and deepest condolences are with the Trooper’s family, friends, and every member of the @TxDPS family as they face this devastating loss,” as reported by KHOU.
