In a series of arrests linked to the murder of 23-year-old Mason Snowball, a third suspect is now in custody, with authorities unraveling a plot entwined in the streets of Midvale. Following a car crash that turned out to be a crime scene on September 18th near Jackson Street and La Salle Drive, investigators unearthed evidence that Snowball had sustained a gunshot wound, which led to his death. This information comes following an ongoing investigation into the incident, as reported by FOX 13, with the deceased being identified as Nathan Snowball by authorities and as Mason by his family in a fundraising effort to cover the unexpected funeral costs.
Unified Police Department of Greater Salt Lake's response to the incident initially captured a 14-year-old in their net for the murder. Unable to be identified due to age restrictions, this juvenile was among what appears to be a coordinated group of suspects. Describing the aftermath of the incident, a witness told officers he heard a pop, then saw Snowball's vehicle speeding through a parking lot sans headlights before the crash, as FOX 13 elaborates.
The overall investigation led to further arrests, including 21-year-old Christiano Antonio Madison, who now faces charges of murder and aggravated robbery. Surveillance footage from the area, which detectives analyzed scrupulously, showed two suspects fleeing the scene after the sounds of a gunshot. Sifting through digital imprints, officers found a post on Madison's Instagram where, wearing attire matching that of one of the suspects captured on camera, he is seen, said photo creating a direct link between him and the crime, as pointed out by KUTV.
Unified Police detective Quin Wilkins, confirming the sequence of events, noted that while a car crash had occurred, it was not the cause of Snowball's demise. "I can confirm that there was a fatality, and there was a car accident," Wilkins mentioned. "However, the car accident was not what caused the fatality,” according to KSL. The intention behind the heinous act, as learned through interviews, was to 'rob a guy of his weed,' which officials believed was the catalyst for the brutal attack. It was the house in Midvale where police served a warrant, taking several individuals in for questioning, that revealed the link to a criminal gang that tied the suspects together, a haunting specter of violence that lingers on the streets, made concrete with the discovery of a 9mm casing at the murder scene.
