Quick action by local fire departments prevented a potentially dangerous situation in Tooele as a field fire, driven by high winds, threatened the Air Med base and the Our House assisted living facility. The blaze began in the area of 1266 N Main St, and due to the intense conditions, it quickly became a concern for the nearby structures.
According to a Facebook post by the Tooele City Fire Department, multiple 911 calls were made reporting the field fire. The fire teams promptly arrived on the scene and had to act fast to contain the wildfire. "Crews made a fast attack on the fire and were able to contain it as it nearly reached structures," the department reported. This swift response was critical under the circumstances, with strong winds rapidly spreading the fire.
Collaboration played a key role in managing the incident, with both the North Tooele Fire Department and the Tooele County Fire Department providing mutual aid. Their combined efforts ensured the safety of the local helicopter base and the residents of the assisted living facility. Residents and staff at both establishments could only watch anxiously as firefighters worked to protect them from the looming threat.
Firefighters on the ground successfully halted the fire, containing it to 21.9 acres of burned land. This concerted effort likely saved both properties from significant damage or total loss. There have been no reports of injuries or fatalities related to the fire as of yet. "A big shout out to North Tooele Fire Dept and the Tooele County Fire Dept for their mutual aid," Tooele City Fire Department expressed, highlighting the importance of teamwork in such emergencies.
