Heads up, Tulsa drivers: you're going to hit some snags on South Lewis Avenue starting tonight. The city has announced that lanes will be shut down between East 34th Street South and East 37th Street South for private utility work, and if you usually cruise through there, you'll want to plan an alternate route or prepare for delays.
According to a City of Tulsa bulletin, the northbound lanes on South Lewis Avenue are going to be off-limits, and the southbound lanes will bear the load of two-way traffic which means congestion is about to get real on that stretch, the closure kicks in this evening and is supposed to wrap up by Sunday, September 21, so this traffic hiccup is just a weekend affair, fortunately.
What's a driver to do? For starters, keep an eye out for those detour signs; they are there to guide you headed. The city's suggested to use caution as you navigate the area – there's likely to be some confusion as drivers adjust to the new setup, and adding a little buffer time to your trip won't hurt either, especially if you're cutting it close to any appointments or reservations you might have on the books.
Those planning their weekend excursions or commutes should also note that although it's a temporary inconvenience, it may still muddle up the Friday rush and the leisure of a Saturday drive, so taking note of these changes in traffic flow will save you the headache of an unexpected delay in your journey.
