A somber scene unfolded on Valley View Boulevard near Somerset Hills Avenue, as a pedestrian lost their life while crossing the street. The accident, which occurred around 8 p.m., added further tragedy to the ever-rising tally of traffic-related fatalities in the Las Vegas Metropolitan area, now standing at 117 for the year.
According to a report by News 3 Las Vegas, the victim was using a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a 2003 GMC Yukon. The driver, who remained at the scene, reportedly showed no signs of impairment but failed to yield the right of way, leading to the devastating collision. The victim was urgently transported to a local hospital in critical condition; however, their injuries were too severe, and they were later pronounced deceased.
The aftermath of the incident led to a significant closure on Valley View Boulevard, which extended from Cactus to Bella Palermo Way. This disruption persisted into the early hours of the following morning before authorities were able to reopen all lanes, as mentioned by FOX5 Vegas. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is continuing its investigation of the incident, although details surrounding the circumstances of the crash remain sparse.
