A tragic incident in Turlock has led to the arrest of Kelle Brassart after her 2-year-old daughter was found drowned in a swimming pool. KCRA reports that the Turlock Police Department responded to a distress call on the 4500 block of Fireside Drive, where first responders attempted life-saving measures for the child; however, she was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Brassart, aged 40, faced charges of murder and child neglect resulting in death following the event and according to law enforcement, there was evidence of alcohol and/or drugs in her system which could have played a role in the child's drowning. She had also been noted for multiple interactions with Child Protective Services in several counties, despite these prior contacts the tragedy that unfolded points to a grim conclusion for a young life cut short.
"This is incredibly tragic," said Turlock Police Chief Jason Hedden, expressing deep sympathy for all those affected by the incident in a statement echoed by reports from CBS News. The investigation remains active, as Turlock police continue their work to fully understand the series of events leading up to the death of 2-year-old Daniellé Pires, and community members with information are urged to come forward to assist in the case. Brassart is being held at the Stanislaus County Public Safety Facility as details of her daughter’s care emerge, with authorities working to ensure the case is treated seriously.
