A three-vehicle collision in Carroll County drew responses from the Maryland State Police, who were on the scene shortly after the incident occurred just after 5 p.m. yesterday. In the crash, involving a Hyundai Accent with two children aboard, both a 10-year-old and a seven-year-old were critically injured and had to be quickly flown to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center by Maryland State Police Aviation Command, according to a report from Maryland State Police.

The accident, which took place around 5:05 p.m. on Maryland Route 32 at Bennett Road, prompted the closure of the highway as troopers from the Westminster Barrack rushed to promptly initiate an investigation and render aid. A preliminary investigation indicated that the Hyundai failed to properly yield to oncoming traffic, causing it to collide with a Toyota Prius, which subsequently impacted a Chevrolet Malibu. No other injuries were reported at the crash site.

With both lanes of Maryland Route 32 closed, crews from the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration were dispatched to assist with the road closures. Deputies from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office were also on site to provide additional support during the aftermath of the collision.

The Maryland State Police Crash Team is now taking charge of the active and ongoing investigation into the circumstances that led up to the crash.
