In a tragic incident late Saturday night in Elgin, a multi-vehicle crash claimed the lives of two individuals, including a minor, and left four others with injuries that necessitated hospitalization, according to KXAN. The collision, which set two cars ablaze, occurred near the intersection of US Highway 290 North and Saratoga Farms Boulevard around 11:55 p.m.
First responders, including an officer who was refueling at a nearby station and quickly joined the efforts, worked to extract victims from the wreckage as the flames engulfed the vehicles, helicopters and ambulances were called in to transport the injured to Austin hospitals while Elgin's emergency response teams scrambled to manage the chaotic scene which left Robbie Carter, 66, of McDade, dead at the site, as reported by CBS Austin.
Among the deceased was a 13-year-old girl from Elgin named Yareli Padierna, who succumbed to her injuries after being taken to the hospital. The crash is under the scrutiny of the Elgin Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Team; Lt. Matthew Hicks urges anyone with information to reach out.
