
A house fire in Spring Hill last night left two dogs dead, sent two people to the hospital, and caused smoke inhalation for a total of five individuals. Hernando County Fire Rescue (HCFR) responded to the blaze around 8:30 p.m. at a residence in the 200 block of Eastpoint Court.
According to WFLA, the fire was reported by a passing motorist who saw smoke and called 911. HCFR arrived to find heavy smoke and initiated an aggressive strategy that included search and rescue efforts, quickly bringing the flames under control.
WTSP reported that the homeowners were away at the time of the fire and that bystanders attempted to rescue the pets inside. Two people were taken to the hospital as a result. In addition to the two dogs that died, two cats remain unaccounted for.
The fire was traced back to the kitchen, and investigations are ongoing to determine its exact cause. Tampa Free Press reported that HCFR emphasized the dangers of untrained individuals entering active fire scenes. No firefighter injuries were reported.
