
Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a congressional intern in Northwest Washington, D.C. Authorities are currently on the lookout for a third suspect, identified as 18-year-old Naqwan Antonio Lucas, wanted on a DC Superior Court arrest warrant for First Degree Murder while Armed (Premeditated), as reported by the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).
The violence erupted on the night of June 30, with police called to the scene following reports of gunfire on the 1200 block of 7th Street, Northwest. Despite quickly to respond, officers arrived to a grim tableau: one man lay unconscious, while two others, including a 16-year-old, were found injured but alert. All three were transported to area hospitals, where 21-year-old Eric Tarpinian-Jachym of Granby, Massachusetts, later died from his injuries.
The break in the case came several days later. The Metropolitan Police Department, aided by the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force (CARFTF), managed to track down and arrest two juvenile suspects on Friday. Seventeen-year-olds Kelvin Thomas and Jailen Lucas, both charged as adults with First Degree Murder while Armed (Premeditated).
A regional bulletin has circulated with Naqwan Antonio Lucas' name and details, the law enforcement community determined to also bring him to account. "The investigation has identified a third and final suspect, 18-year-old Naqwan Antonio Lucas," Metropolitan Police Department stated in a release, underscoring the urgency to conclude their pursuit of justice.
