Over in El Paso's rugged Franklin Mountains, a hiker found themselves in dire straits last week, leading to an elaborate rescue operation. U.S. Customs and Border Protection's Air and Marine Operations (AMO) helicopter crews stepped in to hoist an injured hiker from a precarious predicament near Mammoth Cave, official sources reported.
Falling from a cliff last Saturday, the hiker's plight demanded an urgent response, and AMO's El Paso Air Branch delivered just that. A UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter, along with its skilled crew, managed to safely transport the injured party after lifting them and the six COMSAR rescue crew members 180 feet up into the air, who were suffering from an unknown injury, directly to a local hospital.
According to the details shared by the El Paso Air Branch, this rescue marks the fourth collaborative mission with El Paso County Combined Search and Rescue (COMSAR) in the challenging summer month of August alone. "This is our fourth rescue mission conducted with El Paso County Combined Search and Rescue in the month of August," El Paso Air Branch Director Efren Gonzalez pointed out, as per U.S. Customs and Border Protection, underscoring the importance of a partnership rooted in lifesaving aims and shared expertise.
