The University of Utah's baseball team has officially stepped onto the fresh FieldTurf of Charlie Monfort Field at America First Ballpark, as they conducted their first full team practice this past Wednesday. As the 2026 collegiate baseball season waits in the wings, the construction of the Utes' new facility continues to progress, with the project well on pace to be completed before the season's opening pitch.

In a pattern common among college baseball programs, the team has transitioned from individual and smaller group sessions into this larger, full team workout. Wednesday's practice, therefore, is not their debut in the facilities but marks the first time the whole team has been gathered to practice simultaneously on the diamond. As reported by UtahUtes.com, head coach Gary Henderson expressed his enthusiasm about the ballpark's development, stating, "It absolutely feels real. It's felt real for a while. I've been able to go through (and tour the inside) several times. The outside progress is impressive, and the inside progress is just as impressive."

The continued construction signals not just another season for the Utes, but the christening of their own domain right on their campus after three decades of playing in downtown Salt Lake City. The facility promises to not only provide a new home field but also bolster the student-athlete experience with a variety of support areas, both on and off the field.

Preparation extends to a fall exhibition game, slotted against the SEC's Vanderbilt on October 10th. The matchup is slated to be held in South Jordan, Utah, at the Salt Lake Bees' new digs. The Ballpark at America First Square. Baseball fans can catch the action for free, with the game due to begin at 4 p.m. Henderson's squad for the upcoming 2026 season, which Colter McAnelly, an All-Big 12 selection and right-handed pitcher, will rejoin, combines the expertise of returning players and the promise of 20 recruits, including 15 with prior college baseball chops. "You show up here every day and some new part of the ballpark is done," McAnelly told UtahUtes.com. "It's really awesome to see how fast they're getting it done."
