The University of Utah women's soccer team was bested by the LSU Tigers this past Sunday, dropping the ball with a scoreline of 2-0 on their home turf at Ute Field. Utah's once gleaming record took a hit, now reading 4-2-1 for the season. Their coach, Hideki Nakada, expressed his dissatisfaction with the team's performance. "I'm very disappointed in today's showing," Nakada told UtahUtes.com. "We came out flat and put ourselves in a difficult position in the first half."
Early pressure from the Tigers set the stage, as they managed to effortlessly sneak in the first goal only 15 minutes into the game. LSU's relentless hustle in the first half yielded another goal before the teams retreated for halftime, leaving Utah to regroup and to try coming back from a two-goal deficit. The effort to bounce back saw the Utes sharpen up in the second half, but their attempts, including nine corners and a show of force from Ali Swensen, failed to cut through LSU's defense.
According to UtahUtes.com, the Utes dominated the second half, out-shooting LSU 9-0. Despite the final shot tally of 15-5 in favor of Utah, the scoreboard was unforgiving, cementing LSU's 2-0 victory. "We will absolutely learn from this and make sure it doesn't happen again," Nakada's sentiment reflects a forward-looking mindset for the team's upcoming confrontations.
