Commuters in the South Academy Boulevard area, prepare for detours and delays starting tomorrow. According to a recent publication by the Colorado Department of Transportation, overnight road closures and lane reductions will notably impact the flow of traffic due to the Military Access, Mobility & Safety Improvement Program (MAMSIP). The northbound section between US Highway 85/87 and Bradley Road will be closed for asphalt paving operations from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 7 and Monday, Sept. 8. During this time, "Northbound traffic will exit at US 85/87 and travel south to Fontaine Boulevard, east to Grinnell Boulevard, north to Bradley Road and west to South Academy Boulevard."
The work will continue with further overnight temporary full closures on the stretch between US 85/87 and Milton Proby Parkway from Tuesday, Sept. 9, through Thursday, Sept. 11, also from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Detour routes have been carefully planned to allow for easy navigation around the closures, with northbound traffic being redirected along a series of local roads to rejoin South Academy Boulevard. A detailed detour map is available on the CODOT website for those seeking visual guidance.
In addition to overnight closures, ongoing lane reductions will be the norm along both directions of South Academy Boulevard between Venetucci Boulevard and Coventry Drive. This is to help install traffic signals and islands, a necessary step for bolstering safety, but one that will persist through September 2025. "Drivers should allow extra time, maintain safe following distances, and merge early and safely when approaching the work zone," the Colorado Department of Transportation recommends.
