Upper Arlington, Ohio, is putting its own spin on celebrating the nation's 250th anniversary in 2026. An ambitious project titled "A History of Upper Arlington–250 Stops on Our Story," according to the City of Upper Arlington, aims to create an online story map featuring 250 historical facts and anecdotes about the community. The interactive digital map, set to launch in January 2026, is a collaboration between the Upper Arlington Historical Society, Upper Arlington Library, City of Upper Arlington, and Upper Arlington Schools, and will remain active throughout the year for residents and history buffs alike to learn about the city’s rich past.
In a creative push to involve the Upper Arlington community, the Historical Society is inviting locals to contribute their own pieces of history to the story map. Interested participants can visit the 250 UA History Bites portal to view existing submissions and avoid duplication. The portal also provides a submission form, where contributors can add a title, describe their historical insight in up to five sentences, and upload a photo or graphic to complement their piece. Each submission must include contact information, and contributors can choose whether they want to be recognized for their contribution.
The Historical Society, in keeping with its standard of accuracy, will vet the facts before they go live, ensuring that the collective memory of Upper Arlington is both enriching and precise. The goal is not just to compile a list but to weave a tapestry that showcases landmarks, notable personalities, defining events, and other significant aspects of the community's character, ranging from sports to public institutions.
