Utah State University is undertaking a major overhaul of its Statewide Enterprise with a clear set of priorities aimed at strengthening its impact on communities across Utah. Announced after an expansive eight-month review, which incorporated input from nearly 800 faculty, staff, students, and community members, the initiative seeks to deepen the university's land-grant mission. As obtained by USU Today, Senior Vice President for the Statewide Enterprise Kenneth L. White articulated the ambition behind the redesign, which is to better serve the diverse needs of every county in the state.

Among the key action items laid out by USU, community engagement takes center stage. USU is set to enhance programs that directly address local concerns, reinforce partnerships with industry, and provide students with greater opportunities for learning through internships and hands-on projects. This approach, driven by nearly 800 participants, will ensure academic and extension work are in tune with the specific challenges and identities unique to each community.

Under the new strategy, USU is committed to engaging learners at all stages, from early education through to career readiness and lifelong learning, establishing a more seamless pathway for education and alignment with workforce demands. Such a strategy will leverage data-driven planning and scalable solutions to deliver relevant programs tailored to meet statewide needs. Investing in infrastructure, USU is also set to improve student support and research capacity, like the new student housing projects already underway at USU Eastern, and further expansions where cost and availability limit access.

The redesign includes an innovative financial model with a focus on student success and community outcomes, intending to facilitate resource allocation that promotes equity, particularly for rural, tribal, and underserved communities. Coupled with these changes, USU is dedicated to enhancing faculty and staff engagement, expanding opportunities for professional growth, and empowering decision-making at the local level. As reported by USU Today, White said, "This work marks a turning point and a new chapter for USU" and emphasized the university's aim to become "a national model for how a modern land-grant university can drive access, workforce alignment, and community impact." USU plans to roll out detailed plans in the coming months, which will include community events, pilot programs, and calls for collaboration.
