Utah State University (USU) has stepped up its game in ensuring campus safety by publishing the 2025 Annual Security and Fire Safety Report, a vital resource that provides detailed information surrounding the security measures and protocols in place at USU. According to USU Today, the report adheres to the regulations outlined in Utah Code Section 53B-28-401 and the Jeanne Clery Act, aiming to keep students, faculty, and staff informed, and it not only focuses on USU's main campus but also caters to the safety concerns of visitors.
As obtained by USU Today, Ellis Bruch, the executive director of the USU Department of Public Safety, made clear the university's commitment, saying, "Our mission is to foster a safe and secure environment for every member of the Aggie community, including students, faculty, staff, and their families." The report encapsulates the collaborative efforts of the USU Police Department, Emergency Management, and the Fire Marshal’s Office, all dedicated to maintaining USU as an educational haven free from the worries that can accompany campus life, but the efforts to bolster safety measures is ongoing and the campus' open nature means that security doesn't just stop at the students it's a shared responsibility for everyone around.
Key data featured in the report, accessible through the Department of Safety website, includes crime statistics, arrest records, and referrals handled by various authorities; it also comprises fire safety information specifically for residence halls. Furthermore, USU does not shy away from the touchier subjects, putting policies addressing alcohol and drug use, sexual assault, and other potential campus threats in the spotlight.
