Last Friday in Vacaville, a call from a local business's loss prevention agent set off a series of events leading to the arrest of two men linked to organized retail theft. The agent had reported observing the suspects removing security tags with a magnet, a tactic they had employed across several stores statewide, according to a social media post by the Vacaville Police Department.
Vacaville officers responded to the scene and encountered the two men trying to escape detection by shedding their shirts and hiding under cars; however, their attempt proved futile as they were quickly detained and identified. Furthermore, the investigative process tied them directly to the attempted theft. Inside the store, police uncovered the duo's methodology of collecting high-value items like shoes, disabling security devices, and stowing the goods in a large, pre-prepared suitcase secreted among the clothing racks.
Further probing disclosed that both suspects, in their twenties and originating from Los Banos, were already on formal probation for burglary and possession of stolen items from San Diego and Merced counties. Subsequently, the pair was booked into Solano County Jail, facing charges of organized retail theft, conspiracy, and probation violations as noted by the Vacaville Police Department's announcement.
