The Venice Police Department went public on Facebook, confirming that the threats were taken seriously, though at the time they described the situation as having resulted in no injuries and without a suspect. As the investigation unfolded, roads near the community center were shut down, and a law enforcement helicopter was spotted circling above, as told by a nearby church to FOX 4.
However, this cloud of fear dissipated as authorities soon deemed the malicious calls a hoax. The Venice Police Department suggested that the incident may have been a "swatting" attempt—false reporting to trigger a heavy police response.
