VRC Metal Systems, known for its forward-thinking repair technology, is gearing up to construct a $1.56 million facility at Barksdale Air Force, poised to be a game-changer for maintaining B-52 aircraft and ground equipment. This Additive Manufacturing Rapid Maintenance Facility will harness the company's proprietary cold spray technology, a revolutionary method that forgoes high-temperature melting, instead employing a high-pressure system to accelerate metal particles onto surfaces at supersonic speeds, ensuring repairs are stronger, faster, and more cost-effective, according to the Louisiana Economic Development recent announcement.
The investment will not only innovate but also invigorate the local economy, introducing 21 direct new high-paying jobs for engineers and technicians with an impressive average salary of $80,000, alongside an estimated 25 indirect job opportunities, boosting the regional job market significantly, Louisiana Economic Development (LED) reports. The strategic move aligns with LED’s 9×90 plan, centered on attracting high-skilled labor and fortifying the defense and aviation sector in Louisiana, "VRC Metal Systems highlights the growing role of companies using innovative approaches to expand Louisiana’s defense and aviation sector," according to Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Susan B. Bourgeois in a statement that reflects the organization's commitment to job creation across the state.
Rob Hrabe, CEO and co-founder of VRC Metal Systems, elevated the collaboration with Air Force Global Strike Command, envisioning the facility as a vital asset in leading technological advancements for the military, while Dr. John F. George Jr. of Building our Region’s Future lauded the venture as a critical step in strengthening regional defense industries and supporting national security. More, the new hub will train airmen in deploying cold spray technology, a move anticipated to expand mission capabilities both locally and abroad, as reported by the Louisiana Economic Development.
Bossier City's leadership is also looking forward to the benefits the facility promises; Mayor Thomas H. Chandler expressed his enthusiasm for the addition of VRC Metal Systems to the community, seeing the company as a valuable community partner. And with the spotlight shining on Barksdale Air Force Base and the wider Northwest Louisiana area, Justyn Dixon of North Louisiana Economic Partnership hailed the move as a victory, congratulating the BRF for its role in growing the small business sector and enhancing the capability of the airbase, according to the Louisiana Economic Development released statements.
With its roots as the sole OEM of portable, high-pressure cold spray equipment, VRC Metal Systems continues to dominate the U.S. cold spray market and is expanding its reach globally in both commercial and defense sectors. The company, committed to constant innovation and quality, is anticipated to leverage the state's Quality Jobs program and cement its presence on the global market stage, as per the Louisiana Economic Development.
