The Wake County Public Libraries' 2025 Read Local program has rolled out, putting the spotlight on homegrown authors and lit lovers can catch a series of free events including author talks and writing workshops that promise to be as revitalizing as a fresh cup of joe for the literary soul.

The series isn't just a nod to the written word, it's a full-on embrace of the local literati, "We often say that books open doors, but it’s the people behind them who truly bring stories to life," said Wake County Commissioner Vickie Adamson, giving props to the local scribes set to take the stage and mingle with readers throughout the county, this was revealed in a statement from the Wake County Public Libraries.

Taking a peek at the lineup, bibliophiles can mark their calendars for chats with authors like J. Dwayne Garnett on Sept. 6, Brittney Arena coming up Sept. 20, and Yocasta Bianconi rounding out the month on Sept. 27, with Georgann Eubanks following suit on Sept. 28; kids can get in on the fun with book readings from the likes of Danielle Cosgrove and Audrey Perrott, all slated to stir up young imaginations.

Aspiring writers can take part in upcoming workshops, including sessions with Delia Rouse on Sept. 6, C.H. Carter on Sept. 8, and Heather Bell Adams on Sept. 11. Libraries have also prepared special reading lists featuring works by these authors and other local writers to support the Read Local series.
