The Town of Wake Forest and Wake Forest Power are gearing up to join the nationwide celebration of Public Power Week, taking place from October 5 through October 11. A series of free events and activities are on deck to honor the contribution of public utilities. Wake Forest Power, a division serving over 9,000 residential and commercial customers, intends to mix in some friendly competition and community service as part of the festivities.
Residents can now try to win their October electricity for free until Oct. 9 if they dive into a Trivia Contest or contribute to a good cause. According to an announcement made by the Town of Wake Forest, customers need to correctly answer all 10 questions in the trivia or donate a minimum of four non-perishable items for a chance to enter the lucky draw. The Town invites its patrons to participate either through the trivia available on their website or by donating goods at the Mini Pantry at H.O.P.E. House. This creative twist on a giveaway aims to engage customers in the power community's heritage while also supporting local philanthropic efforts.
Another event, 'Savings for Seniors Bingo,' will cater exclusively to Wake Forest-area seniors. Scheduled for October 7, this bingo session will introduce fun ways for seniors to learn about energy conservation and have a chance to win prizes, as mentioned in the Town's press release. Community Outreach Assistant Kiel Ortiz is the point of contact for those interested in the details of the event.
The theme of appreciation doesn't just stop with the games. Throughout the week, the Town Hall will transform into a hub of gratitude and engagement, with popcorn being served daily to customers and Public Power Week promotional items up for grabs. "Public Power Week is also Customer Appreciation Week," the Town of Wake Forest's statement highlighted, explaining that staff will be on-hand to share information and respond to any services or program related inquiries. Jenna Gonzales, the Administrative Specialist, has been noted as the go-to for more information.
Support from local businesses is instrumental in bringing Public Power Week's initiative to life, with numerous merchants like Quality Plus Automotive and Chick-fil-A in Wake Forest contributing to the cause. The full list of contributors is available on Wake Forest Power's website.
