In an effort to foster stronger community bonds, the Wake Forest Police Department extends an invitation to the public to join them for "Coffee with a Cop." The event, which is part of a broader initiative aimed at facilitating candid dialogue between law enforcement and residents, was held today, from 8:30-10:30 a.m. at Stewart's Bistro located at 3652 Roger's Rd.
The WFPD shared via their social media, a space where officers and community members typically might witness only the fraught moments of life, that their intention is to create a space for more congenial interaction, "Coffee with a Cop" provides a unique opportunity for law enforcement and community members to come together in an informal, neutral setting to discuss community issues and build relationships - one cup of coffee at a time."
These kind of events, which seek to dismantle the formal barriers that often arise between police and the policed, hinge on the idea that a relaxed atmosphere can pave the way toward mutual understanding. By interacting in an everyday environment rather than in the heightened circumstances of police work, both officers and citizens are provided with the rare chance to engage as just people, over a simple cup of joe.
Wake Forest residents were encouraged to attend, ask questions, and get to know their local law enforcement in an approachable setting. "All community members are invited to attend, ask questions, and learn more about the WFPD," the department announced, signaling an open door policy for the morning event. And the department is not stopping there, announcing plans to host future "Coffee with a Cop" get-togethers at various local businesses in the coming months.
Community members interested in future events, or those who wish to learn more about the initiatives of the local law enforcement, can follow updates through the WFPD's Facebook page.
