The Town of Wake Forest, together with local veterans' organizations, will conclude this year’s series of flag-raising ceremonies honoring the service and sacrifices of military veterans. The final ceremony is scheduled for October 6 at 11 a.m. in Centennial Plaza and will honor the late U.S. Army veteran Patrick McLivain, according to a town announcement.
For the 65th edition of this tradition, relatives and friends of the McLivain family will gather for the raising of both the American flag and the U.S. Army service flag, representing the branch in which Patrick McLivain served. The Wake Forest Fire Department Honor Guard will perform the flag-raising. Photographs and personal memorabilia will be displayed during the ceremony and later moved to the Town Hall lobby for the remainder of October.
The American flag raised at the event will be preserved and presented to the McLivain family during next year’s April 6 flag-raising ceremony. This practice recognizes the service of deceased veterans and provides a meaningful tribute to their families.
For those interested in participating or learning more about the upcoming event, or who wish to nominate a deceased veteran for future memorials, additional details are available on the town's official website.
