A Warren man, Kevin Buchanan, 36, was arrested after being accused of possessing child sexually abusive material. The arrest followed a tip to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Authorities executed a search warrant at his home on Thursday and seized several items that are now under forensic review, according to ClickOnDetroit.
Buchanan was booked into the Macomb County Jail on three counts of aggravated possession and four counts of using a computer to commit a crime related to child pornography, charges that could carry up to 10 years in prison. He is being held on a $250,000 bond and would be required to wear a tether if released, as reported by CBS News Detroit. At his arraignment before visiting Judge Russell Ethridge, Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido said, “Those who possess this material are not passive observers, they are fueling the cycle of abuse. Our office will relentlessly pursue charges to protect vulnerable children and to deliver justice on their behalf,” as mentioned by FOX 2 Detroit.
Local law enforcement agencies, including the Macomb Area Computer Enforcement detectives, the Sheriff's Enforcement Team, and the Michigan Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, worked together to arrest Buchanan. Authorities said community reports played a role in the investigation. Buchanan remains in custody, and additional charges could lead to a lengthy prison sentence.
