Ricky Corey Watkins, 33, of the District of Columbia, was sentenced to 37 months in prison for unlawful firearm possession. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro stated that Watkins was on parole when he was found with a Glock handgun loaded with 15 rounds and equipped with a laser sight attachment, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

On March 19 at the Harrison Recreation Center, Watkins was detained for riding a dirt bike on the baseball field. While being taken to the hospital for an injury, he tried to run away in handcuffs. During the attempt, a loaded 9mm Glock Model 19X fell from him. He was caught shortly after and charged, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Watkins, previously convicted of assault, cruelty, and carrying a pistol without a license, pleaded guilty on May 30 to unlawful firearm possession. The case, prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney James B. Nelson, was handled by U.S. District Judge Beryl A. Howell with involvement from the Metropolitan Police Department and the ATF Washington Field Office, as mentioned by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
