Washington, DC has a new feather in its cap with the launch of 202Creates Month, inaugurated at the Planet Word Museum. The celebratory event, initiated by Mayor Muriel Bowser and the OCTFME, is a tribute to the diverse and vibrant creative economy that has become an integral part of the city's identity, ranging from the arts to tech innovations. Mayor Bowser emphasized the economic importance of the creative sector, stating, "The creative economy in Washington, DC employs residents, attracts investment, diversifies our economy, and strengthens the vibrancy of our city," as noted by the Mayor's Office.

The first ever 202Creates Con opened with a series of panels, live performances, and networking opportunities that shined a light on DC's array of creative individuals and businesses. With an eye on the future, the city aims to drive growth and attract new business to the capital. "202Creates is a strategic economic driver that powers our city’s identity as the creative capital and as an innovative economy," Director of OCTFME LaToya Foster was quoted in an official announcement.

Spanning the entire month, 202Creates will host numerous events across all eight wards of the city. Highlights include the Art All Night, DC JazzFest, H Street Festival, and Fashion Week. This year introduces a significant upgrade for Art All Night enthusiasts — a free mobile app offering an interactive map and live updates to enhance the experience.

Expectations culminate on September 25 with the 40th Annual Mayor’s Arts Awards. Described by Mayor Bowser's office it's "a signature celebration honors the exceptional contributions made by members of Washington, DC’s arts and creative sectors," where winners are chosen by residents themselves.
