Watauga County Schools is implementing enhanced security measures after a reported threat against Watauga High School. Although the threat is not currently considered credible, all schools will operate under SECURE protocol starting Monday, according to Queen City News. The district has not released specific details of the safety procedures.
An email sent to families stated that students will have monitored entry and exit and will be screened with metal detectors, Watauga Online reported. The Watauga County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the origin of the threat.
WCNC News reported that the Sheriff’s Department is urging anyone with information to come forward. District officials said student safety is their top priority and thanked the community for its support during the investigation.
