Motorists traveling through Ann Arbor this weekend should expect delays. The Michigan Department of Transportation announced lane closures on US-23 near Joy Road for repairs to the bridge damaged by a high-load strike in June 2024. Michigan Department of Transportation said the closures are to ensure "the safest work area possible for crews and motorists."
Traffic will be affected from 9 p.m. on Friday to 8 p.m. on Sunday. One lane will be closed in each direction at first. Total road closures will happen occasionally from 11:59 p.m. on Friday to 5 a.m. on Saturday, enforced by the Michigan State Police, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.
The $41 million reconstruction project will "directly and indirectly support 391 jobs." Drivers are advised to allow extra travel time or use alternative routes during closures. The Michigan State Police will manage traffic control to reduce disruption and ensure the work is completed safely, as stated by the Michigan Department of Transportation.
